Two Las Vegas Schools Earn Blue Ribbons
Las Vegas is a great place to live for adults. But, truth is, it's not the greatest place to education your children if you can't afford private schools. (Which is true for a lot of America....)
But things are getting better in Las Vegas! This week Thompson Elementary in Las Vegas and Wallin Elementary in Henderson received Blue Ribbon Awards from the U.S. Department of Education. The award recognizes public and private schools that excel in assessments or in closing the achievement gap between subgroups of students. This is pretty darn exciting because great adults start with great learning in kindergarten.
In other school news, Clark County parents can now access the performance of their children's schools through a website called Opportunity 180. Parents can compare how their school is doing versus other schools in Las Vegas, Henderson or North Las Vegas. The information spans kindergarten through grade 12.
The 411 is available in both English and Spanish.
The real estate angle: Parents want the best for their children and that starts with education. If the location will work with your work commute, try to buy a house in a top school district...because that's how many parents search for properties.
